Deeper We Fall Review By Lauren B.

Type of Book: YA/College Romance

Author: Chelsea M. Cameron
First Sentence: “How can you not see how delicious he is?”
Last Sentence: “I’m in charge of this trip.”

A Zesty Drama

Deeper We Fall commences two years in the past with four main characters: Lexie, Lottie, Zach, and Zan. Lexie and Lottie are best friends, Zach and Zan brothers. Zach is obnoxious and flirty while Zan is reserved and intensely quiet. Lexie, Zach, and Zan were involved in a car accident after a drunken bonfire with friends; Zach and Zan were left with major scars on their bodies while Lexie was more severely affected, unable to walk without limping, go to college. and has a limited vocabulary and memory of people. Naturally, Lottie blames Zach and Zan for the condition of her best friend and loathes their existance. Flash forward two years later to Lottie, her twin brother (Will) and his best friend (Simon) off to college, running almost immediately into Zach and Zan. Lottie begins to deal with this undesirable situation, bringing up repressed feelings, by choosing to ignore obnoxious Zach and quiet Zan who is pretty much everywhere on campus. Lottie comes to realize that perhaps she labeled one brother too quickly. As you can imagine, lots of yelling, angst, and heart-to-hearts ensue with Lottie questioning “Why me?” and “Why can’t you be someone else?”
This book was engaging and addicting from the first chapter to the epilogue. I was immediately drawn into Lottie’s group of friends, each of whom had their own personality, quirks, and witty remarks. Told from a duel perspective through Lottie and Zan, we are witness to the various encounters, confrontations, and thoughts of both these characters as well as their motives for the feelings they express to each other.

5/5 stars. This author does not disappoint, I would recommend this book if you enjoy college angst and drama, duel perspective novels, and novels addressing real situations.

I am greatly anticipating the companion novel which will focus on Katie (Lottie’s roommate) and Stryker (Zan’s friend) entitled Faster We Burn.

My Favorite Quote: “Remember; Elizabeth fell for Mr. Darcy, Beauty fell for the Beast and Scarlet fell for Rhett. Girls love a mysterious boy with a dark past. Trust me.”
