In this asylum, your mind plays tricks on you all the time…
Delia’s new house isn’t just a house. Long ago, it was the Piven Institute for the Care and Correction of Troubled Females—an insane asylum nicknamed “Hysteria Hall.” However, many of the inmates were not insane, just defiant and strong willed. Kind of like Delia herself.
But the house still wants to keep “troubled” girls locked away. So, in the most horrifying way, Delia gets trapped.
And that’s when she learns that the house is also haunted.
Ghost girls wander the halls in their old-fashioned nightgowns. A handsome ghost boy named Theo roams the grounds. Delia finds that all the spirits are unsettled and full of dark secrets. The house, as well, harbors shocking truths within its walls—truths that only Delia can uncover, and that may set her free.
But she’ll need to act quickly, before the house’s power overtakes everything she loves.
From master of suspense Katie Alender comes a riveting tale of twisted memories and betrayals, and the meaning of madness

First let me say I love scary books, actually I love anything that scares me. I learned a long time ago that the feeling of being scared is like no other and I like it! Yes, I know I am weird but Hey someone has to like the scary stuff :). Now that you know I love all scary things, you see why I had to get my hands on this book. I have to say I would read anything Katie Alender writes. I read her Bad Girls Don’t Die Series 4 years ago and have been hooked on her writing ever since. She just knows how to write a good scary book.
This book takes place in Pennsylvania, in a old institute for females. The main character Delia is given a old house by her great-great aunt Cordelia. Delia has no idea that the house was once a place for troubled girls and many of them never left there alive or when they died. Delia knew off the bat that something wasn’t right about this building but her parents were making her stay so they could fix it up and possibly sell it one day. So much happens in the first 60 pages, that I couldn’t put it down and had to stay up until 1 am, with the lights on of course to finish it.
The characters in this book that you meet are great and mysterious and have you wondering if you are rooting for the right one. Some of the characters stories are so heart breaking that you honestly want to reach in the book and hug a ghost, even if their face is all melted. This book is a stand-a-lone but I honestly think and hope she writes a book with novellas about all the ghost your meet. I think their back stories would be so much fun and I would buy it right away! This is honestly one of my new favorites for this year and I can not brag enough about how amazing Katie Alender’s writing is!
